Safety/Rules

Coptercam is a fully licensed operator of UAV’s/Drones and as such is governed and regulated by the Civil Aviation Authority. For the safety of the public, crew and property it is essential that these regulations be adhered to.

Below is a basic list of the rules required to operate however each job will be risk assessed on an individual basis.

  1. We require landowners permission to takeoff and land
  2. We cannot fly over people, roads and buildings that are not under the control of the film crew
  3. The UAV must not be flown at a height exceeding 400 feet above ground level and at a distance beyond the visual range of the operator, or a maximum range of 500 meters.
  4. At all times the UAV must not be flown over or within 150 meters of an organised open-air assembly of more than 1000 persons

In some circumstances it may be necessary to visit a location to ascertain the suitability of the site but this is very rare. Normally a postcode is all we require to carry out a Pre-flight survey to see if there are any restrictions, which will affect our ability to fly in the location.

SAFETY

Coptercam is committed to safety and the safe operation of UAV’s. All our aircraft have been assessed by The European Unmanned Systems Centre (EuroUSC) – Europe’s leading independent Light UAS Accreditation Specialist for assessing ‘Airworthiness & Pilot Qualifications’.

Both our pilots are fully qualified and hold BNUC-S Licences and our UAV’s are fitted with the required Fail-Safe systems. This means in the event of a pilot becoming incapacitated or radio signal is lost the UAV will return-to-home and land.

In addition to the safety measures required by the C.A.A Coptercam also fly with a twin battery setup, this means in the case of a battery failure, the UAV will remain in the air and continue to operate safely.

DO NOT HIRE UNLICENSED PILOTS!

UAV aerial filming has become an integral tool in television, commercials and film production, this growth has sparked a wealth of suppliers offering their services but beware! Anyone flying UAV’s for commercial use are required to be licensed by the C.A.A and if they do not have the permission for aerial work then they will not have insurance or public liability cover. Always insure you select a properly qualified and licensed operator to protect the safety of the people, property and crew being filmed.
